12 Days of Giving: Day Two

Life with Bubba, Chicky and Nika

For the first 12 days of December, I am hosting the 12 Days of Giving here on my blog. For more information on what this is all about or how you can participate ... click here.

When my toothless monkey started kindergarten, I was anxious to get involved in his classroom and at his school, in general. I wanted to know the dynamics of how things worked there. And ... I wanted to be involved as much as possible, sort of in a way to gear up for when the girls start school -- since we will need the school on our side.

This morning I spent some of my time cutting out 29 penguin bellies for Mason's teacher. She needed them for an upcoming project and asked for my help ... and I obliged.

I am so appreciative of everything that Mason's teacher and teacher's aide do for him ... the least I can do for them is to give my time helping with some of the small stuff!

I forgot one. And a few answers.

I forgot one picture the other day when I posted some of our Christmas decorations ...

Our house is the one on the right. Ha.

Totally kidding ... I know this picture has been floating around the internet (thanks Kristen!) ... but it still makes me laugh every time I see it!

I have received several emails with the same questions about the 12 Days of Giving ...

I didn't see this until just now ... can I start late?!
Yes ... you can start whenever you want ... better late than never! You can either back blog like I always do or you can start late ... it is up to you. I'd just be blessed to have you participate, because everyone has something to give ... and ya'll are inspiring me and others!

I'm not sure I have 12 things to give ...
Of course you do! Think outside of the box ... giving isn't always about having money to give.

What about giving your time by volunteering at your child's school? What about giving more of your time to your family? What about giving unusual thanks in a note to someone letting them know you appreciate them?

At the end of the day, if you did something for someone that made their heart happy ... then you gave. It is that easy!

12 Days of Giving: Day One

Life with Bubba, Chicky and Nika

Earlier today, I was browsing through Wish Upon a Hero ... a website that serves as a place for people to post wishes and for others to grant those wishes if they are able. I came across this wish ...

allison

MY WISH: I would like to give a Zhu Zhu to my daughter for Christmas.

My Princess has multiple special needs and has only a few things she can play with. She can't own a "real" pet. I have checked these out and it would be ideal. I just can't seem to find one. I can promise it would have a good home and make a little girl smile A LOT. I can't afford the inflated prices on auction sites so this would be a sweet gift! Thank you!

After reading this person's wish, I was completely intrigued. Number one ... I happen to have two duplicate Zhu Zhu Hamsters, one of which I planned to sell on Ebay, I suppose. Number two ... this little girl has special needs, just like my girls.

Perfect!

After emailing this little girl's mom, I learned that her daughter ... Allison ... has Partial Trisomy 11/22 or Emanuel Syndrome. I also learned that Allison was adopted through Project Cuddle when she was six weeks old.

I was even more intrigued. They adopted Allison ... a child with special needs ... just like we adopted Nika ... a child with special needs.

Isn't it amazing how we were brought together through a wish granting website?

So tomorrow I will package up Mr. Squiggles ... my extra Zhu Zhu Hamster ... and ship it off to Miss Allison. Yay!

12 Days of Giving

Some people give time, some money, some their skills and connections, some literally give their life's blood. But everyone has something to give. ~ Barbara Bush

Do the words you just read resonate with you?

It is more blessed to give than to receive. ~ Jesus, Acts 20:35

Exactly! It is more blessed to give than to receive. Never am I happier than when I can give to others ... whether it be giving my time, giving my money or giving my skills.

I have decided to challenge the blogging community in 12 Days of Giving.

Life with Bubba, Chicky and Nika

For the first 12 days of December, let's give! Let's inspire others by sharing how we give. Whether it be donating an old pair of glasses, volunteering at a homeless shelter or buying something for someone in need ... all of it matters.

What do you have to give?

I invite you to participate with me in the 12 Days of Giving on your own blog! Here is what you need to do ...

1. Enter your blog address in the MckLinky widget below. You only need to do this once ... the widget will remain ongoing here on my blog throughout the entire 12 Days of Giving.

2. Each day, for the first 12 days of December, write a 12 Days of Giving post on your blog, inspiring us in how you gave that day.

3. Add the 12 Days of Giving button to each of your posts by grabbing the code and inserting it into your blog.

4. Finally, click over to everyone else's blogs and be inspired!

If you don't have a blog, but would like to participate ... feel free to leave a comment on my blog telling us your story ... I'm so excited to be completely inspired by all of you!
