But the children continued to play.

We have been living life in the fast lane ... and we need to slow down.

Three kids in three different schools. A broken phone. A photography business. A tonsillectomy and adnoidectomy. A baby boutique business. Two broken computers. A new venture with Juice Plus. An apraxia diagnosis. Treatment of H. pylori for three of us. A hunt for a PROMPT trained therapist. Selling a car. Four therapy sessions a week -- make that six starting next week. Treatment of ongoing skin problems for the little man. Volunteer work. And the list goes on.

We are all tired.

When we started this school year, Payton had to give up her afternoon naps. She definitely was not ready to stay bright-eyed and bushy-tailed all day ... alas, her school schedule required it.

As I stand at the door of the bus to get Payton each day after school, I witness her stumbling down the aisle with her eyes half open -- the bus aide holding her up.

School exhausts her.

So much so, that I can collect her from the bus, carry her into the house and lay her down -- backpack and all -- with not a flinch. Makes me chuckle, really, because she is so dang precious.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I usually can't make it into the house with her without her hearing the screams of the neighborhood children. She perks up out of nowhere and can't get down to play with her friends fast enough.

She loves her friends.

Today the neighborhood children and I gathered in the driveway and danced to Alvin and the Chipmunks blaring from my car. They each had chairs and a CapriSun to fill their hands.

They loved it. They ran around and enjoyed each other's company.

Until ... the music stopped. And as I tried to figure out why, I realized my car battery was dead. Dead as a dog.

But the children continued to play.

I love days like today. Days where I can forget about all those things in the fast lane and just live life. Dead car battery and all.

Scrumptiously perfect.

About a week ago, my sister had her first baby. My niece.

IMG_9842bwwm

I may be biased, but she is scrumptiously perfect.

There is just something about a baby that is your sister's child.

IMG_9888bwwm

I feel like she is a part of me. I love her as if she were my own.

IMG_9882wm

And that isn't only because she has a ton of hair like my babies had as newborns.

IMG_9892wm

It is because of the bond I have with my sister.

And her scrumptiously perfect baby.

Baby itch, anyone?

Summer fun is winding down ...

We took the kids to the pool last night for what I fear will be one of our last trips to this pool this summer. Seriously ... how does one make time stand still? I could use a little bit of that.
Addison has become so content in the pool ... she just floats around in her little raft and does her thing.

Payton is ... umm ... a fish. A whale. A dolphin. She is in love with the water. She would jump off the side of the pool all day long if there were someone to catch her. She also is doing so good with learning to swim ... she kicks her legs and moves her arms exactly the right way.

Mason has come a long way this summer in the pool. He did well last year with his little arm floaties, but this year he has not had to use them at all. He has almost mastered his swim and we are so proud of him for that! He is finally tall enough to touch in most areas of our local pool ... thank God. I seriously can only take so much of that big lug hanging on me ... it is enough to drown me!

Choas turns to peace ...

Today started out a little rough. We had therapy and a doctor's appointment scheduled, but we were running late. After loading the kids in the car and backing up about five feet in the driveway, I decided we just were not going and that I was canceling our appointments. Ha.

So I pulled back up in the driveway, unloaded the kids and took them inside to feed them breakfast and blow dry my hair. Because we hadn't even got that far prior to leaving the house. Sigh.

Despite the heat, I decided to take the kids to a National Battlefield Park near our house that I had drove past before. I noticed it had a cool bridge and a raised wooden walkway through the woods, so I thought it would be fun to take the kids there and just let them walk on the walkway.
And ... I have been needing to get a good picture of Payton for our local Down syndrome calendar, so I dressed her up and we headed out. I didn't really think I got a good shot of her, although I did end up getting this shot ...And here is the little miss refusing to smile for me ... but looking cute anyway ...I titled this blog entry Chaos turns to peace, although our walk was less than peaceful. Mason whined because he wanted us to walk faster so he could ride his scooter. Payton whined because her shoes hurt her. Nika couldn't keep up and pouted. Mason whined because he wanted us to walk faster so he could ride his scooter. Payton kept sitting down because her feet hurt. Nika was so hot and fatigued that she had snot and saliva flowing. Mason whined because he wanted us to walk faster so he could ride his scooter. Payton needed to be carried. Nika needed to be carried. Mason whined because it was so hot. I couldn't get back to the car with my three lovely children fast enough.

But let's just try to pretend it was peaceful. Ha.

Pool Fun

It is summer. And naturally the kids want to go to the pool. But ... during the day, it is just me and the kids.Which is a little hard when it comes to pools. But we did it.
Mason can swim.Payton can swim and float. And Nika can float.Nerves? What nerves? All that and I can take pictures without having a kid drown ... I got talent. Ha.

Our happy girl ...

I took these pictures when we were in New York overlooking the city of Albany. I told Kyle to get Nika to laugh and boy did she ever. Isn't it amazing the changes she has made in the past six months?

It is amazing. She is amazing.
